In 12 ye... more Pretty much every time I upgraded my phone was because of a shattered display - with the exception of my Poco F1. I have had plastic displays from back in the day, from my old Ericson's, to my N-95. As for screen protectors, I've never had any peeling or dirt getting under them because I apply them carefully, or I just ask a phone store to apply them for me. Some people have blue collar jobs or lead active lifestyles and screens get more punishment accordingly. I lost my Meizu M2 Note to my dog bolting after a cat while I was holding his leash and my phone in the same hand, and it went flying. Screens get smashed in a million ways.

Victus scratches way more than previous versions which is quite sad to see... I'd rather stick to GG5 or whichever version it was before Victus as I've never cracked my phone screen, barely drop any in my life. Hopefully they improve Victus soon

If I crack one now, I'll just buy a new phone as I "saved up" on all the displays in these 12 years. There is now way I'll ever bother again with useless display protectors that always peel off on one edge, get air and dust underneath and then just look horrible. Not to mention they are terrible and ugly on phones with curved displays and always introduce an edge where dust collects like crazy. It seems none of you have lived with phones when they still had plastic displays and how horrible they were. But hey, they never ever shattered. Yay.

Rugged models has existed as long as mobiles has been mainstream. The first rugged Motorola was released way back in 1987, for instance.

I care way more about glass being shatterproof than scratchproof. I can always replace the screen protector with a new 9H one (I use Nilkin, which are pretty expensive, but worth it for durability, optical clarity, tactile touch experience and they use good optical and oilophobic coatings). Truth is, the phone companies have a conflict of interest in these things. The more screens we smash, the more new phones we buy. They want to focus on "scratch resistance", but few people replace their phones over a few scratches. A shattered screen will have you whipping out your credit card very quickly though, and when GG smashes, it *really* smashes usually - not just cracks.

Gorilla glass is just evolution of tempered glass. Biggest change was shift from soft plastic displays found on phones like feature phones in early 2000's and first touch Nokia phones that used resistive displays (you had to physically bend it to register touch with a stronger press of a finger or stylus). Those displays scratched so fast it was ridiculous. Which is why I don't understand all the whining people do about "glass can break". What do you prefer, display all scratched up from most mundane soft objects or potential possible maybe crack from a very rare drop? Those of us who had phones from era of plastic displays would never ever go back to plastic displays. In last 12 years of using smartphones, I haven't cracked a single piece of glass on any of my phones. I've had plenty of them scratched and that was on glass. If it was plastic, they'd be 100 times worse. Glass is awesome. It's premium feeling, finger glides better on it and it's so much more scratch resistant. My iPhone has tons of micro scratches, but they'd be mega scratches on plastic display, so I'm totally fine with it.

CptPower, 3 hours agoWhat should be done at least $50 - $250 : gorilla 5 + IP67 $251 - $600 : gorilla 6 + IP68 ... more Yep. All my phones, like ten years ago were much more durable than what I have right now. Back in the day there were not even durability tests because all phones were durable and could take a fall all day and yet continue to work without any issues. And yes, far ago moto made the best phones with shatterproof tech. And since I used to have one back then I can tell that they definitely are better than any version of glass today

From 2007-2011 was arguably the most creative time in mobile history. The last few years of Steve Jobs' life. I've seen Michael Fisher abuse his foldables and Victus has really held up well for them. I do find the irony. When iPhone 4 was first announced in 2010, many people praised it for its design. But when more Android OEMs started copying that especially Sony in 2013 with the Xperia Z, eventually more people hated it. I never cared for glass backs myself. I don't mind going back to plastic in hoping we get removable batteries back.

It’s more likely that manufacturers use thinner sheets to make the device thinner. But thinner glass is more likely to crack.

I didn’t even know there was GG3+

Famous Jerryrigeverything aka Zac Nelson words: Glass is glass and glass will breaks. Buy a screen protector, panzer glass, 9H or 5D it doesnt matter it does a lot better job than expensive gorilla glass where you need to replace whole screen anyway. Problem solved. By the way best protection was invented by Motorola it was called a shatterproof screen ro glass. Did a lot better job than any Gorrila Glass since 1 up to a Victus plus. Lastly Nokia 3310 of the old times had no gorrila glass no UIP resistance no toher cerfitication and survived even most horrible things several people did with their phone. And it was perfectly working even when was forgotten in wash maschine, dropped from construction site or tossed away as a rock to a guys head which made us very angry today. In other words it survived everything even without a case. Not many phones could do that then and no phone especialy touch phone could do that nowdays.

Man few things NFC is useless gimmick many people still does not use for security reasons. Haxciking your card or phone is not an issue. Micro USB yes or no it doesnt matter as many low end phones are cheap to made and used for most basic tasks. Having a Niokia for 50 bucks with 800 mAh battery and fast charge USB-C 2.0 or above is pointless. Whole IP certifcation is nothing just costly useless gimmick. 2 months ago Samsung in Australia got fined by 14 millions for missleading water resistance adds. Since no phone manufacturer include water damage in regular warranty whole IP protection makes no sense. Book case is good enough (Nobody swims with his phone and no IP protection helps agains salt sea water) Besides most phones can withstand several rain drops. Nokia 3310 of the old times had no IP certification and could survive even half day in mud water. Just sayin. Lastly whole GG protection like with IP resistance is nothing just an useless costly gimmick. Only good thing was a Shatterproof protection by Motorola company. Gorrila Glass is costly and screen cost a lot to repair and anyway everybody or most people will peel of the first foil on a screen and install panzer glass or a 5D or 9H screen protector which does same tricks as Gorrilaglass but much cheaper. On sites like wish or alliexpress anyone can buy 100 pcs for 10 bucks just for example. And it will works the same way but a ot cheaper. Lastly famous words from Jerryrigeverything Glass is glass and it will breaks. Having one GG Victus plus and nothing else or a typical 9H screen protector along with ordinary screen. Rather will go for ordinary screen and a screen protector. Two glasses breaks harder than just one. And most people use book case or so which also protects the screen of the phone. End of story.

rizki1, 8 hours agoAnd yet some budget Motorola, Nokia, Samsung didn't give Gorilla glass after 15 years. An... more Man 9H or 5D screen protector does same tricks is replacable by user and cost way less so why bothering with expensive gorrila glass and expensive repair if something bought from aliexpress for 25-50 cents works the same.

Anonymous, 9 hours agoSecond half of 2022, but xiaomi and motorola still making many phones with GG3 when even $80 p... more Man like this useless gimmick matters. Yes its costly and its protective it does its job but any glass or panzer glass screen protector bought from alliexpress does sametricks for much less. Having r not having GG on a phone is not an issue as long as i can put a screen protector on it. And i dont mean thin foil but regular glass with Hardeness of 9H or 5D as is somewhere called or above.

Gorilla glass is fine but you need to use a glass screen protector anyway. Otherwise you will get nothing but scratches.

FatShady, 4 hours ago plastic back is much better, its cheaper and less heavy. I like the feel of alloy. Plastic is fine too, though, some satin or microtouch finish at best.

notafanboy, 4 hours ago So don't be a clumsy basterdo and don't drop your phones? Ez. Then why use Gorilla Glass? I very rarely drop my phone, heck i don't even use a case for almost a year now.
