Vernon County and the City of Nevada are partnering with Region M Waste Management District to offer a Fall Clean-up and Recycling Event from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Vernon County Fairgrounds (1488 E. Ashland St., in Nevada, Mo.) All services will be provided free to Vernon County residents.

The following items will be accepted for recycling:

All electronics will be accepted, regardless of condition. If it ran on a cord or battery, it will be accepted. Computer, printers, and other items with sensitive and personal information will be properly destroyed. All appliances, big or small — any type of televisions, stereos, speakers, fans, heaters, etc. — will be accepted.

Only passenger and light truck tires will be accepted. There is a limit of 10 tires per household. No farm, semi, or tractor tires will be accepted. Community members are asked to remove rims prior to arriving.

A dumpster will be onsite for all scrap metal. Fluorescent bulbs and batteries will also be accepted.

Vernon County Recycling Center also accepts cardboard, paper, plastics, and glass. These items may be dropped off at 310 N. Colorado St., in Nevada, Mo. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and from noon to 6 p.m., on Thursdays.

Funding for E-waste recycling and tire collection is provided through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Waste Management Program. For more information on recycling items, contact patty@regionm.org or call (417) 317-5021.

Also at the clean-up will be the disposal of items. This includes the free disposal of all household items (furniture, windows, doors, landscape materials, drywall and insulation, broken yard tools, hand tools, carpet, mattresses, wood, old playhouses, styrofoam, patio furniture, grills, etc.)

Staff will be onsite to assist in unloading items. Community members are asked to not drop off anything before or after event hours.
