C asio's latest flagship MT-G watch MTGB2000YBD1 uses a new hybrid structure that combines stainless steel and composite materials to provide a light and strong timepiece.

The Metal Twisted G-Shock (MT-G) Ref. MTGB2000YBD1 is made of carbon fiber-reinforced resin with a hard-shell inner case that protects the dial and movement. The back is fully visible. A hexagonal shell composed of 235 laminated and machined carbon fibers and glass fibers constitutes the carbon fiber reinforced inner shell. Viewed from the side, the layered structure has a red and black striped surface-viewed from the top of the case, lugs, and crown guard/hinge, the carbon pattern is a checkered pattern.

As is the case with most G-Shocks, the watch has armored crystals, which means that the glass is located under the stainless steel bezel to protect it from impact. With high-quality G-Shocks, the glass is made of high-quality synthetic sapphire crystal. The scratch-resistant bronze ion-plated stainless steel bezel—fixed to a layered carbon and fiberglass frame by four functional bolts—is octagonal. The octagonal bezel and the hexagonal case cancel each other out. The top and sides of the bezel are frosted, and the machine bevel on the outer edge is polished. My favorite detail is the inner lip of the bezel. It is also polished. When light hits it from certain angles, it will give the watch a high-end appearance.

This MT-G MTGB2000YBD1 high-tech carbon fiber and glass fiber, stainless steel, carbon-reinforced resin hybrid material provides maximum shock resistance while maintaining a significantly lighter weight than the 2020 MTGB2000D-1A. 132.6 grams and 157.6 grams, which is a reduction of 25 grams, which is mainly due to the layered carbon fiber and glass fiber frame.

The MTGB2000YBD1 case has a diameter of 48.5 mm (50 mm including hinge/crown guard) and a thickness of 15.2 mm. The ear-to-ear size of this watch is 55 mm, which is perfect for my 7-inch (57-58 mm wide) wrist. You may need to measure the top of your wrist to ensure that there is enough area for the watch to lie flat and not hang on the edge.

Unlock MTGB2000YBD1. The newly designed 8.25 mm diameter screw-in crown-made of stainless steel and fine resin-can control functions such as manual setting of the time. The remaining functions are controlled by four flat pump pushers located at 3, 5, 8 and 10 o'clock positions.

Similar to the previous model, the ion-plated stainless steel bracelet is tapered to 22 mm at the buckle and has a fine resin backing structure. Compared with a pure metal bracelet, it can warm the skin and reduce weight. The double button safety buckle fixes the bracelet on the wrist and has a large number of links to fit larger wrists. There are three additional positions on the buckle, allowing you to further extend the length if needed. The ear holes are made of tubular carbon plates to improve durability. The double screws on both ends of the bracelet can be used to connect/disconnect each part of the two-piece bracelet without tools. It still requires some skill, so you still have to be careful to avoid damage.

In addition to the technical advantages of the layered carbon fiber reinforced resin frame, aesthetically, the mixture of red and black layers—especially the red fiberglass layer to match the red tone on the dial and one of the buttons—makes this MT-G from See clearly from the side or from certain angles.

G-Shock’s Triple G-Resist technology protects the Bluetooth/atom-calibrated robust solar Japanese quartz movement module 5636 from impact, centrifugal gravity and vibration. The case is also waterproof to a rated depth of 200 meters. With Triple G-Resist, this watch can really resist almost anything-and it takes a lot of force to make this G-Shock unusable.

When connected to the G-Shock app via Bluetooth, the watch will automatically set the time using the same ultra-precise navy clock calibration as the mobile phone. If there is no cellular signal and telephone nearby, as long as it is within approximately 1,500 miles of one of the six atomic towers around the world, multi-band atomic technology can be used as a redundant backup. If the above two methods fail, you can use the electronic crown to manually set the time. Even without signal calibration from mobile phones or atomic clocks, the accuracy of the watch is +/-15 seconds per month, thanks to precise Japanese quartz technology.

G-Shock’s Tough Solar technology-allows the sun to pass through the translucent dial to charge the battery-allows the watch to run with a rechargeable battery for 5 months (normal use, not exposed to light after charging) or up to 29 months. Rechargeable battery (stored in a completely dark environment, turn on the power saving function after fully charged).

Below the crystal, the dial is still clear and easy to read. In addition to displaying the time, there are many useful functions. Having multiple functions is great, but too many functions can hurt usability. The hour, minute and hour markers are completely illuminated like traditional mechanical sports watches. In addition, the "Super Illuminator" LED light provides bright lighting on demand through one of the buttons, and has a "afterglow" effect. The watch has analog hours and minutes, the minute hand moves once every 5 seconds (rather than once every second, which requires more energy), and the red central second hand is used for the chronograph. The watch enters the power saving mode, which means that the hands stop moving when the watch is in the dark.

Casio G-Shock MTGB2000YBD1 has a variety of practical functions, including dual time display (both with AM/PM indicator), 1/4 second stopwatch, 24-hour countdown, daily alarm, automatic calendar date display (to 2099) , The date indicated by the hands and 27 time zones (with local city time exchange and automatic daylight saving time DST switch).

The solar powered Bluetooth movement keeps the G-Shock MTGB2000YBD1 accurate and fully charged, almost without your input. It does need sunlight occasionally to charge. Sometimes you may need to resynchronize with the G-Shock app to change the time zone or other phone-controlled settings, but generally speaking-the watch will update the time, date, and keep charging itself.

MT-G has become smaller and lighter in recent iterations. Although this model has not been further reduced in size, the crown looks more stylish and attractive. Most importantly, compared with the latest MT-, Casio Managed to reduce the weight by 25 grams. G that does not give up durability before it. In fact, thanks to the layered carbon fiber and glass fiber frame, carbon-reinforced resin inner frame and ion-plated shell components-this may be the strongest MT-G to date.

The overall size feels good on my wrist, but this is a fairly large watch, even though Casio has reduced most of its volume with the development of the MT-G series. The exquisite resin-backed stainless steel bracelet is well-designed because it is similar to titanium and light in weight, but it feels much warmer on the skin.

The new MT-G has more carbon fiber parts to improve durability and reduce weight. However, even considering all the features and technologies, the price is relatively high even compared to the MT-G we reviewed last December. Again, you will usually see similar layered carbon fiber technology in watches from companies such as Panerai or Richard Mille, and their prices are even comparable. Those are mechanical watches. This is a quartz-based timepiece, but in the final analysis, they are all watches. The bottom line is that MT-G is more likely to withstand whatever you throw at it. Thanks to the excellent protection of the case, dial, crystal, movement and hands-thanks to G-Shock, extremely high durability is guaranteed.

The retail price is $1,200. Learn more at G-Shock.
