Bystronic Glass will participate in GlassBuild America's booth 1127.

Longer-heavier-bigger! The B'JUMBO XXL insulating glass production line of Bystronic Glass can be described by these three attributes, which is inspired by the motto created by Pierre de Coubertin for the Olympic Games.

With this production line, Bystronic Glass has set a new benchmark in architectural glass production: This 165-meter-long production line is used to automatically produce 18-meter-long insulating glass, which is a unique size in the world.

Therefore, it is the longest insulating glass production line in the world, and it was recently put into use at the famous German manufacturer Thiele Glas in Wemsdorf, Saxony. In recent decades, Thiele Glas has gained a reputation, especially for creating unusual facades in industrial buildings.

Bystronic Glass is responding to the future of insulating glass technology in an innovative way, which also opens up new opportunities in the field of curtain wall design.

B'JUMBO XXL can produce new sizes of insulating glass or facade glass: the maximum size of B'JUMBO XXL is 3.30 meters high and 18 meters long, and the maximum glass weight can be up to 10 tons, which is the current trend and the larger size The ideal solution to the needs of architectural glass.

"This production line is an unprecedented huge and unique step, providing a comprehensive new choice for the glass processing industry. We are proud to be able to combine our experience in innovation with our knowledge of glass processing machines, and its history can be traced back to 50 Years ago, a production line could then be launched such as the B'JUMBO XXL to the market", explained Stephan Kammerer, as the product engineering manager, responsible for the design and manufacture of the machine.

B'JUMBO XXL is equipped with an edge removal robot, a glass washer, a turning station, six inspection and frame positioning stations, five assembly, inflation and stamping robots, a sealing robot and multiple conveyor belts. A majestic B'JUMBO XXL. The complete line.

The world record-breaking machine length or maximum glass size is not the only characteristic of this production line; it also has many other characteristics:

Obviously, B'JUMBO XXL can also be used to produce up to 4-sided stepped double or triple insulating glass units. In doing so, the maximum retreat of the frame in step 4 is 250 mm, the maximum retreat distance of the glass front edge in step 1 is 1,000 mm, and there is no size limit for steps 2 and 3.

"However, sustainability is also extremely important to us", explains Stephan Kammerer. "Although all sizes are too large, energy efficiency and sustainable production are extremely important in the design process of the production line."

"Green production" includes fully optimized energy efficiency and energy recovery mechanisms: for example, the conversion of kinetic energy generated during braking into electrical energy. The recovered energy is fed back to the system and distributed to the axles that currently require energy through the motor management module.

In this way, production on B'JUMBO XXL can achieve resource-efficient and sustainable production of insulating glass or exterior wall units.

Another highlight is the semi-automatic locator. Previously, manual positioning on the glass required a lot of manpower and a long time, especially when dealing with large-format spaced frames.

The frame positioner can quickly perform this task, because the spacer frame is automatically positioned in the workstation, and the fixture belonging to the upper pole automatically presses the upper edge of the frame onto the glass.

The core of the jumbo'sealer XXL sealing robot is its dynamic mixing system. Compared with static mixing systems that are very common in the industry, dynamic mixers work with significantly reduced material pressure. With a flow rate of up to 6 liters per minute, it can also provide the largest volume of material.

Therefore, even if the current maximum size is 3.30 mx 18 m, jumbo'sealer XXL can seal rectangular cells and deep spacers in shape formats faster than other robots commonly seen in the industry.

"It is also different from other sealing robots in the glass industry in its automatic material change system, which allows the operator to change the sealing material-for example from polysulfide to silicone-within two minutes without the operator -" explains Stephan Kammerer Say. "In addition, there are several lower clamping options in the unloading area to support the removal of the fully sealed Jumbo device."

If as early as 1894, Pierre de Coubertin (Pierre de Coubertin) knew what technological opportunities would appear in the field of modern glass processing in the 21st century, perhaps he would add "Longer—" to his classic Olympic motto. —Heavier — bigger”.
