It provides unlimited range

Zurich-based Swiss Sustainable Yachts has launched its new luxury yacht, which is powered by two sustainable fuels (solar and hydrogen). According to New Atlas reports, this yacht, called Aquon One, has all the amenities you want on the yacht, and there is no guilt.

Even if cars are moving towards electrification, maritime transportation has yet to see the same enthusiasm. The first electric boat may have completed its maiden voyage, but the limited range provided by the battery is still a major challenge to overcome. The manufacturer of Aquon One fully agreed, so they chose an electric propulsion system powered by a hydrogen fuel cell instead of a large battery.

They went a step further and installed a hydrogen fuel generator on the yacht, which completely eliminated the need for refueling and eliminated any restrictions on its voyage. The hydrogen generator is powered by solar panels on the roof of the ship covering an area of 689 square feet (64 square meters) and can output more than 75 kWh/day in summer. Hydrogen is produced by electrolysis and desalinated water, and then compressed and stored in a carbon canister for long-term use.

According to New Atlas, the yacht is powered by a 134-horsepower hydrogen fuel cell-driven electric motor, which is placed in each hull. The hydrogen from the long-term storage tank is used to generate the required propulsion, and water and heat are by-products of the process. The heat is collected again and used for water supply and heating of the yacht as a whole.

The electricity generated by solar panels is also stored in small-capacity batteries for short-term use, including meeting on-board energy requirements and for propulsion when needed. The yacht's manufacturer also includes wastewater and black water management and treatment plants, so that the water used on the boat can get a second life. In addition to the sustainability quotient, bamboo, cork, natural fibers and recycled leather are used inside the yacht.

Aquon One will not sacrifice luxury for sustainability. On the yacht, you will also find a living room, large glass windows with automatic sunshade, a private terrace, and a master bedroom and guest bedroom with appliances such as a refrigerator, washing machine, dryer and dishwasher, all connected to smart energy management system.

This 64-foot (19.4 m) yacht has a maximum speed of 16 knots, but its maximum cruising speed in its ecological speed mode is 6 knots. If you decide to take an unlimited trip, there is enough space on this sustainable ship for 10 people to spend the night. According to New Atlas reports, the ship is priced at US$6.79 million (6 million euros) and is scheduled to be put into use in 2023.
